"We Should Do Something!"

Updated: Mar 18, 2019

A little bit about how A Brand New Mother's Day came to be.

Jes and Emily of Mad Chicken Studio were at Galentine's held at Northland Special Events in 2018 and Safe Haven Women's Shelter and Resource Center was the featured charity. Miranda, who works at Safe Haven, got up to speak and inform the guests more about what Safe Haven is and how they rely on help from the community to stay up and running. It was during Miranda's presentation that Jes poked Emily in the back and said, "We should do something!!"

Jes poked Emily in the back and said, "We should do something!!"

What started out as an idea to get the survivors updated family photos quickly spiraled into more - it should be a day of pampering for the moms because they will always put their kids first!

Mariah came by the studio a few days later with donuts (this is very important, don't ever underestimate the power of donuts) and was immediately on board. The event should have hair and make up for the mothers, we should have a "shopping" section for them to pick through clothing donations because these women arrive at the shelters with little more than the clothes on their backs, we should have take away bags for them filled with goodies, we should get them gift cards to places where they have to get something just for themselves!! It spiraled quickly and we wanted to give these survivors something they don't ordinarily get; a day to themselves, in the same space as their kids, to feel safe and happy, to get them started on their journey in their new lives.

We set up a meeting a few weeks later and it took off! We had a place to hold the event, we had a vendor who would take care of entertainment for the kids, we had Hair and Make Up artists from WITC, we received clothing donations from all over the area, Maurices came in and supplied brand new sample clothing, we had monetary donations coming in through PayPal left and right, and so much more! Holy cow - we actually pulled it off!! In less than three months, we pulled an entire event together.

The twin ports community is truly outstanding and really came through to make our inaugural event truly spectacular! We had sponsorship from several businesses in the area, women in the community were quick donate clothing, make up, money, household items, etc, and we were so in awe of all the vendors and sponsors who made it happen.

If you were a part of it, thank you so so much! You impacted these women's lives more than you probably realize and it is because of you we decided to not only make A Brand New Mother's Day an annual event but also a non-profit organization.

If you are interested in donating to our 2019 event, please click the "DONATE" button at the top of the screen for all your options. Thank you for your help and we look forward to hearing from you!
